SR20DET Oil Pan Modification
SR20DET's have different oil pans than the standard SR20DE's that come in US market cars like the SE-R and G20. Both the upper and lower pans differ. SR20DET upper pans have a larger, more pronounced reinforcement "webbing," most likely because of the heavier, all-wheel-drive transmissions that they are mated to in Bluebirds, Avenirs, and Pulsar GTi-R's. This "webbing" will not clear the crossmembers of Sentras, 200SX's, and G20's so it is necessary to grind it down for clearance.
I decided it would be best to do this modificatioin while the oil pans were off of the engine. It is much easier to clean up the metal shavings and such. I also banged the dented lower oil pan back into shape at this time. Here are some pictures of the cutting that I did on the upper oil pan and the cleaning I did on it as well.
